It Comes Up (in conversation) …

Find below four resources based on South Yorkshire stories – feel free to get inspiration for conversations you hold.

These were produced in response to the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strikes, and the devastating Battle of Orgreave on 18th June 1984. The topics they cover “come up” again and again in our work.

  • Proud of this Place - a sense of home shapes identity: can we talk, listen and explore our feelings about that?
  • Industrial Decline - when industries like steel, coal, textiles and pottery declined, many people struggled: are there safe spaces to reflect on this profound change?
  • New Arrivals - people who look different can feel threatening and fear of change can be manipulated: how could we talk and listen?
  • Living the Legacy – conversations can help us explore feelings about home, the impact of industrial decline and changing neighbourhoods as we face the future together.

Each resource also provides information about what we have learned in 15 years, carefully holding conversations about these and other troubling, important things.
