Hi everyone. I just wanted to comment here having watched what felt like a *very* closely related film on Netflix earlier this week.
“The Old Oak” (2023) is apparently likely to be Ken Loach’s final film (according to the man himself) and it is currently on Netflix UK if you’re a subscriber (https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81700120).
Highly recommended and if you’re family with Loach’s work (and his recent work in particular) you’ll know precisely what to expect!
Absolutely WiYN? related hence mentioning it. Also available on physical formats (Amazon the cheapest, as usual..) if you don’t have Netflix.

I am on this novara media youtube broadcast though I dont come across very well. More interesting is the interviews in the middle of the broadcast with people beginning “I am not racist but..”
The final clip is very powerful and has been shared on social media thousands of times.
After the Riots, File on 4 podcast
I thought this was very interesting and powerful. Listen now.
This new BBC3 series called ‘Small Town, Big Riot’ I found quite interesting Small Town Big Riot
This Guardian article and graphic shows most of those charged at Wath and elsewhere were all local people
Interestingly (and perhaps unsurprisingly enough) that precise expression/opener “I’m not racist but…” crops up at least once during the Ken Loach film I mentioned on my own comment..
Thanks Steve, that’s really interesting.
