1-day introductory training with Who is Your Neighbour?
We provide training and support for individuals, groups, and organisations in South Yorkshire, and across the UK online. We offer accessible options and have a sliding scale of fees for all our work.
In this interactive one day training drawing on our experience in conversation work, we explore:
- What happens when we hear something about race, immigration or culture in the course of our work or everyday lives that challenges us or when tensions arise?
- What are the possible responses to those comments - how do we choose the most appropriate response in that moment?
- What to do - if we choose to have a conversation, how do we do it?
- How we understand our own reactions and make decisions about risk and safety?
- The ways conversations can be open, rather than confrontational.
- Alternatives to shutting down difficult statements we find challenging.
- Practicing scenarios based on real life examples.
In all our work – including dialogues and training events – we aim to generate empathy and curiosity. By the end of the training, you will:
- Gain confidence and skills in responding to comments in work and life.
- Have increased understanding of the options and responses available when hearing comments around race, immigration and culture.
- Have deeper knowledge about how to respond.
- Gain understanding of the role of empathy when encountering challenging views.
- Have greater confidence through practicing ways to respond.
In post training evaluation, 100% of previous participants said they felt:
- More confident opening up a conversation in response.
- Their understanding of options available had increased.
- They had gained knowledge of and practiced how to respond to things they heard.
This training is for individuals from organisations, established groups, or networks, both professional and voluntary. We also welcome attendees from a wide range of sectors including charities, civic and community work and organising, education, academia, faith leadership, business, local and national government and many more.
